This past weekend, six exceptional students from Math Together Canada (MTC) proudly joined the Ontario Math Circle (OMC) team at the prestigious American Regions Mathematics League (ARML) competition. Held annually, ARML brings together some of the brightest young mathematicians from across North America for a rigorous, fast-paced mathematical challenge.
Among the OMC team, James Qiu of MTC had the honor of being selected as team captain. His leadership played a pivotal role in the team's ability to tackle complex problems efficiently, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Thanks to their outstanding collective performance, the Ontario Math Circle team earned an impressive 7th place overall—a remarkable achievement in such a competitive environment. The rest of the MTC squad—Yingshan, Perry, Michael, Prince and Kaylyn—also made impressive contributions. Perry, Michael and Kaylyn qualified for the individual round tiebreaker, a testament to their deep mathematical understanding and consistent performance under pressure. Michael Sun made an especially notable achievement by securing a place among the top 20 individual scorers, an outstanding result considering the competition's intense level.
“We are incredibly proud of all peers,” said James. “Not only did they represent our MTC with excellence, but they also made significant contributions to the overall success of the Ontario Math Circle team.”
This year’s ARML competition was not just about winning—it was a celebration of mathematical passion, collaboration, and perseverance. Congratulations again to James, Yingshan, Michael, Perry, Prince and Kaylyn for their outstanding performances. We’re excited to see where their mathematical journeys take them next!
